Cardiff’s Miller to remain in Scotland plans despite imminent Vancouver Whitecaps move – Robson | Scottish Football News | Tribal Football

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Barry Robson is confident that Kenny Miller will remain as Scotland’s star striker despite his impending move to MLS.

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Barry Robson is confident that Kenny Miller will remain as Scotland’s star striker despite his impending move to MLS.

The 32-year old is set to depart Cardiff City to join the Whitecaps this week and Robson, who made the move from Middlesbrough recently, believes he can become a star in North America as well as retain his spot as Scotland’s main target man.

“Kenny is Scotland’s main striker and I don’t see that changing any time soon,” Robson said.

“He’s still young, he’s still fit and he’s become a real leader for the national team.

“Kenny has a massive part to play for Scotland and him moving to Canada will not make a difference.

“I know Kenny feels that way and I’m sure nobody in the international set-up wants to lose him.

“He’ll keep going, I’ll keep going and hopefully we can help the national team reach the (2014) World Cup.”

Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon has suggested that he may not be able to afford to sign Alan Maybury.

The 33-year old defender has been training with the Edinburgh club recently but Fenlon fears that financial constraints might make it tough to sign him permanently.

“We have had Alan in training for a week,” Fenlon told Hibernian TV in relation to the former Leeds United, Heart of Midlothian, Leicester City and St Johnstone full-back.

“He’s a great professional and a very, very good player. He’s probably someone we could do with around the place.

“Whether we are able to do it at the moment, I’m not too sure with the way things are. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Celtic full-back Emilio Izaguirre has distanced himself from claims that he is set to leave football for a career in politics.

Reports late last week suggested that the Honduras international could be looking to move into politics by becoming a deputy for the National Party of Honduras but he has dismissed those claims, revealing a picture was used of him merely as a show of support.

“The party only asked me for a picture to support them,” he said.

“I live for football. My only interest is in getting ready for the new season with Celtic.

“I look at this as bad news for me and my family because I know that in my life I want to be political (but not yet).”
